New Patients: Insurance, Coverage & Fees

New patients welcome at Waterdown Kids Dentistry, no referral needed. Direct billing, CDCP accepted, and straight answers on coverage and fees.

We Are Accepting New Patients: No Referral Necessary

Waterdown Kids Dentistry opens in September 2026, and we are booking first appointments now. Reserving a spot before opening means shorter waits and your pick of after-school times, which fill quickly once a practice is established. Dr. Mansour is a pediatric dental specialist, but you do not need a referral from another dentist to book. Any parent can call us directly. We do also welcome referrals from dentists, physicians and community partners.

Insurance and Direct Billing

We accept all private dental insurance plans. Confirm whether the practice offers direct billing to insurers, which plans are accepted, and whether payment is due at time of service. This is one of the highest-intent questions parents ask before booking, and answering it plainly on the website reduces phone friction considerably.

The Canadian Dental Care Plan (CDCP)

The Canadian Dental Care Plan helps cover dental costs for eligible residents without private insurance, including children under 18, which covers every patient we see. Note that CDCP reimburses at its own established rates, which may not match specialist fees in full; we will explain any difference before treatment. We are a participating CDCP provider and welcome all patients covered by this plan.

Fees and Payment

As a pediatric specialty practice, our fees follow the Ontario Dental Association Suggested Fee Guide for Specialists. We will always provide a written treatment estimate before proceeding with anything beyond a routine exam and cleaning, no surprises, and no work started without your say-so.

Why Specialist Fees Differ

Specialist fees sit higher than general practitioner fees, and it is worth understanding why before you see a statement. A pediatric specialist completes additional years of training beyond dental school specifically in treating children, including very young patients, children with complex medical needs, and behaviour management and sedation. Many insurance plans reimburse at the general practitioner rate rather than the specialist rate, which can leave a gap between what we charge and what your plan pays back. This surprises families, so we would rather say it plainly here than have you discover it later. We will show you the difference in writing before treatment, every time. If cost is a concern, tell us. There is often more than one clinically sound way to treat a problem, and we would far rather have that conversation with you than have a child go untreated.

Frequently asked questions

Do you direct bill my insurance?

[TO CONFIRM]

Why are your fees higher than our family dentist's?

We bill from the ODA Specialist Fee Guide rather than the general practitioner guide, which reflects the additional specialty training required to treat children. We will always give you a written estimate first.

Will my insurance cover the full specialist fee?

Not always. Many plans reimburse at the general practitioner rate, leaving a gap. We can submit a pre-determination to your insurer before treatment so you know the exact out-of-pocket amount in advance.

What if we do not have dental insurance?

Many families are eligible for the Canadian Dental Care Plan. Call us and we will help you work out what applies to your family.
